Mexiko 2020. Ich sitze in der Strandbar, eine frische Kokosnuss in der Hand und das türkisfarbene Meer vor mir. Ich schlürfe am Strohhalm und frage mich: Warum gibt es eigentlich keinen Song für Digitale Nomaden? Für einen Lifestyle, wie er schöner und erfüllender nicht sein kann?

Ich recherchiere und finde kaum etwas. Ich entdecke einen schönen Lounge-Instrumentaltitel und eine skurrile Parodie auf Gloria Gaynors "I Will Survive" mit dem Inhalt "No 9-to-5". Aber ein richtiger Song, über den Digital Nomad Lifestyle, der sich anfühlt wie dieses Leben? Fehlanzeige.

Playa del Carmen war 2020/21 voll mit Digital Nomads. Viele davon auch mit einem Faible für Musik. So versuche ich herauszufinden, wie man als Laie einen Song produziert. Die Antwort startete meistens mit einer 4- bis 5-stelligen Dollarsumme, bevor man mir überhaupt Fragen beantworten wollte. Ich muss die Idee zurückstellen, aber sie ist geboren.

Über die nächsten Jahre schreibe ich immer wieder Textideen auf, sammle Keywords, entwickle ein klares Bild von dem Song in meinem Kopf. Ich weiß, wie er klingen soll. Ich weiß, wie er sich anfühlen soll. Aber der Song bleibt erst mal nur eine Idee und ein langer Notizzettel.

Sechs Jahre später. Ich sitze in meinem Lieblings-Café auf Mallorca und arbeite an meinem neuen Webinar. Gerade hatte ich entschieden, mein ChatGPT-Abo zu kündigen, und wollte die restliche bezahlte Zeit aber noch voll ausschöpfen. Dann, mitten in der Arbeit, hört ChatGPT unvermittelt auf, mit mir zu sprechen. Keine Antworten mehr. Gar keine. Ich bin genervt.

Während ich noch mit offenem Mund auf den stummen Monitor starre, erscheint genau in diesem Moment ein Freund, den ich viel zu selten sehe. Er setzt sich für einen Kaffee zu mir und wir reden. Ich erzähle ihm von meiner ChatGPT-Frustration und davon, dass ich KI für überbewertet halte. Es ist einfach zu viel Aufwand für zu mäßige Ergebnisse. Er hört zu, nickt, und erzählt mir dann, dass er Musik mit KI macht.

Ich bin skeptisch, aber beim Thema "Musik" natürlich sofort hellwach. Ich erzähle ihm mit glänzenden Augen von meinem Digital Nomad Song, der mir seit 6 Jahren im Kopf herumschwirrt. Ich schildere ihm meine Ideen zur Richtung, ein paar Stichworte und Textfragmente. Er schaut kaum von seinem iPhone hoch, und tickert stumm meine Stichworte mit.

Der Kaffee will wieder raus und ich muss mich für 2 Min. entschuldigen.

Als ich zurückkomme, präsentiert er mir ein erstes Song-Ergebnis. Klingt schon ganz cool, denke ich überrascht. Aber es haut mich nicht um. Es klingt halt nach "KI" und ich fühle meine Skepsis bezüglich der Hype-Technik bestätigt. Kurz danach muss er leider los, weil seine Kinder warten. Ich arbeite weiter und schreibe ihm noch eine kurze Nachricht:

"Danke für die Inspiration! 🙏 Hat mir mega viel Spaß gemacht mit dir. Coole Sache, das mit der KI. 👍"

Er liest es lange nicht. Und dann, 20 Minuten später, kommt eine Nachricht zurück – und darin: ein neuer Song angehängt, der mich wirklich absolut umgehauen hat. Wir haben ja beim Kaffee ein bisschen am Text und an der Richtung geschraubt. Aber jetzt ist er plötzlich wirklich da. Nach 6 Jahren und 20 Minuten. DER Song.

Ich stopfe meine AirPods in die Ohren und drücke auf Play. Es ist erschreckend und faszinierend zugleich. Fast noch besser, als es mir 6 Jahre lang durch den Kopf ging. Und jetzt habe ich fast Tränen in den Augen. Die KI hat mir (und euch!) in 20 Minuten einen Song mit Musik, Text und Gesang erstellt, wie ich ihn mir nicht schöner hätte vorstellen können!

Ich muss gestehen, dass ich kein großer Freund von KI-erstellten Inhalten bin. Aber dieses Ergebnis, dieser Song… das ist absolut zu schön, um ihn euch vorzuenthalten. Obwohl überwiegend KI produziert, transportiert der Song für mich genau das Gefühl, das ich im Kopf hatte.

Ich schicke den Song sofort weiter an meine Freundin. Sie stellt den Song sofort auf Dauerschleife und als ich heimkomme, kann sie ihn bereits mitsingen. Jeder, der den Song bisher gehört hat, ist begeistert. Und auch mir wird der Song nach 1.000 mal hören nicht langweilig. Und jetzt muss der Song endlich raus. Ich bin gespannt, wie er dir gefällt!

Mach es einfach

Was mich bei der ganzen Geschichte noch bewegt: Nicht die Technologie. Nicht der Zufall. Sondern die Tatsache, dass eine Idee, die ich 2020 am Strand in Mexiko hatte und jahrelang mit mir herumgetragen habe, an einem ganz normalen Mittwochnachmittag in einem Café auf Mallorca – zwischen Webinar-Arbeit und Klo-Pause – einfach mal eben erledigt wurde.

Nicht weil ich mehr Zeit investiert habe. Sondern weil ich es einfach umgesetzt habe. Eigentlich exakt nach dem Simplicity-Prinzip, das ich promote. Weniger machen, schneller fertig sein, bessere Ergebnisse  erzielen und mehr Zeit haben. Das ist genau das, was meine Brand "SUN+MONEY" ist. Einfacher, aber besser.

Interpret "SUN+MONEY"

Den "Interpret" des Songs SUN+MONEY zu nennen, war für mich naheliegend. Denn das ist, was wir Digitale Nomaden und Freiheitsliebende brauchen: Sonne und das Geld, um diesen freien Lifestyle zu finanzieren. Seit 2016 steht SUN+MONEY für "In der Sonne leben und online Geld verdienen – aber sicher!" Der Digital Nomad Song ist die logische, musikalische Erweiterung davon.

Mexico 2020. I'm sitting at a beach bar, a fresh coconut in my hand, the turquoise sea stretching out in front of me. I sip through a straw and wonder: Why isn't there a song dedicated for digital nomads? For a lifestyle that couldn't be more beautiful and fulfilling?

I do some research and find almost nothing. I discover a lovely lounge instrumental and a quirky parody of Gloria Gaynor's "I Will Survive" with the lyrics "No 9-to-5." But a real song about the digital nomad lifestyle that actually feels like this way of life? Nowhere to be found.

Playa del Carmen was teeming with digital nomads in 2020/21. Many of them also had a passion for music. So I tried to find out how a rookie like myself could produce a song. The answer always started with a 4- or 5-figure dollar sum before anyone would even bother to answer my questions. I have to put the idea on hold, but it's born.

Over the next few years, I keep jotting down lyrical ideas, collecting keywords, developing a clear picture of the song in my mind. I know how it should sound. I know how it should feel. But for now, the song remains just an idea and a long notepad.

6 years later. I'm sitting in my favourite café in Mallorca, working on my new webinar. I'd just decided to cancel my ChatGPT subscription and wanted to use up the remaining paid time. Then, in the middle of working, ChatGPT suddenly stops talking to me. No more replies. None at all. Nada. I'm annoyed.

While I'm still staring at the silent monitor, my mouth agape, a friend I see far too rarely appears. He joins me for a coffee, and we talk. I tell him about my ChatGPT frustration and how I think AI is overrated. It's simply too much effort for such mediocre results. He listens, nods, and then tells me he makes music with AI.

I'm sceptical, but of course, the topic of "music" immediately piques my interest. My eyes light up as I tell him about my Digital Nomad song, which has been swirling around in my head for 6 years. I describe my ideas for the direction, a few keywords, and some lyric fragments. He barely looks up from his iPhone, silently typing along with my notes.

The coffee is calling, and I have to excuse myself for 2 minutes.

When I return, he presents me with a first draft of the song. It sounds pretty cool, I think, surprised. But it doesn't blow me away. It just sounds a little bit like "AI," and I feel my scepticism about the hyped technology confirmed. Shortly after, he unfortunately has to leave because his children are waiting. I continue working and send him a quick message:

"Thanks for the inspiration! 🙏 It was fun with you. This AI ​​song thingy is quite cool. 👍"

He doesn't read it for a long time. And then, 20 minutes later, a message comes back – and attached is a new song that absolutely blew me away. We tweaked the lyrics and direction a bit over coffee. But now it's suddenly here. After 6 years and 20 minutes. THE song.

I stuff my AirPods in and press play. It's both terrifying and fascinating. Almost even better than I'd been envisioning it for 6 years. And now I almost have tears in my eyes. AI ​​created a song for me (and for you!) in 20 minutes, with music, lyrics, and vocals, that I couldn't have imagined better!

I have to admit, I'm not a big fan of AI-generated content. But this result, this song… it's absolutely too good to keep from you. Even though it's mostly AI-produced, the song perfectly captures the feeling I had in mind.

I immediately sent the song to my girlfriend. She put it on repeat right away, and by the time I got home, she was already singing along. Everyone who's heard it so far has loved it. And even after listening to it a thousand times, I still don't get tired of it. And now I just have to share it. I'm curious to see what you think!

Make it simple

What moves me about this whole story is not the technology. Not the coincidence. But the fact that an idea I had on a beach in Mexico in 2020 and carried around with me for years was simply accomplished on a completely ordinary Wednesday afternoon in a café in Mallorca – between webinar work and a bathroom break.

Not because I invested more time. But because I simply implemented it. Actually, exactly according to the "simplicity principle" I promote. Do less, finish faster, achieve better results, and have more time. That's exactly what my brand "SUN+MONEY" is all about. Simpler, but better.

The Artist "SUN+MONEY"

Naming the artist of the song SUN+MONEY was an obvious choice for me. Because that's what we digital nomads and freedom lovers need: sunshine and the money to finance this free lifestyle. Since 2016, SUN+MONEY has stood for "Living in the sun and earning money online – but safely!" The Digital Nomad Song is the logical, musical extension of that.
